In 2017, the industrial group controlled by Roman Karkosik generated PLN 6.29 billion in revenues, i.e. up by more than 11% on the year before.

While the gross profit on sales increased by almost 12% to PLN 732.7 million, the growth of the operating was stronger, i.e. up by 27%, to PLN 335.4 million. The strong performance was achieved despite large provisions recognised for VAT claims (PLN 50 million) and the write-off of assets for plant start-up (PLN 16.2 million). These negative factors were positively offset by revaluation of investment property (PLN 32 million) and the reversal of write-downs, amongst others.

01.04.2017 FORBES MAGAZINE: POLISH CAR PARTS INSTALLED WORLDWIDE

For a decade, complaints were heard that Poland, instead of being a manufacturer of foreign cars, is becoming merely a supplier of components for them. Today we are a European superpower when it comes to their production. In the meantime, Polish companies have also expanded worldwide and now produce parts all over the world, from Brazil to China.

Roman Karkosik is known in the business world for his fear of flying. He even goes by car on a holiday to Sicily. Understandably, the businessman from Toruń has become a great lover of cars, especially the expensive and comfortable ones. He was one of the first Maybach owners in Poland and remains faithful to this brand till today. But for Roman Karkosik the automotive industry is not only a passion, for several years it has been one of the increasingly dominant building blocks of his business. Last year, Boryszew’s revenues in the Automotive Segment exceeded PLN 2.15 billion. The company’s international expansion is gathering momentum. It already owns five factories abroad, with the last one opened only last year in Mexico. It manufactures air-conditioning ducts for Audi Q5.

“The automotive companies say clearly: if you want to be our supplier, you have to be global. Global and flexible. If they need components for their cars manufactured in Africa, I will build a factory in Africa for them” – declares the billionaire in an interview for Forbes magazine. And even the reluctance to travel by air does not stop him from pursuing the global expansion of his company. Although he has yet to visit his Mexican plant, he is further extending its operations – in November, production of parts for Volkswagen was launched there.
